Basic Red 2 is also known as Safranine o or Safranin o OR Safranin o stain. It is utilized as a counter stain in several staining protocols; and coloring cell nuclei red. In a Gram stain, this is the standard counter stain. It can be utilized for the detection of mucin, cartilage and mast cell granules.
